How to Keep Your Flowers Fresh for Longer
Fresh flowers should feel like a treat. With the right care, your bouquet can stay vibrant for longer. Follow these simple steps to get the best from your LoveBlooms.ie flowers.
1. Unwrap Gently and Give Them Air
Remove all packaging as soon as your bouquet arrives. Flowers can be a little tired after transit, so give them a moment to breathe before arranging.
2. Hydrate Your Flowers Straight Away
Place the stems in a jug of clean, cool water for ten to fifteen minutes while you prepare the vase. This gives them an immediate drink and helps them recover from the journey.
3. Trim the Stems
Cut one to two centimetres from each stem at a forty five degree angle using clean scissors or secateurs. This helps the stems take in water more efficiently.
4. Remove the Lower Leaves
Any leaves that would sit below the waterline should be removed. Leaves in water break down quickly and encourage bacteria growth.
5. Choose a Clean Vase and Fresh Water
Wash your vase with warm soapy water and rinse well. Fill it with cool, fresh water and add the flower food provided. If you have no flower food, a teaspoon of sugar and a drop of bleach can help keep the water clear.
6. Place Your Flowers in Water Carefully
Arrange the stems gently in the vase, ensuring each one makes clean contact with the water. Avoid overcrowding, as good spacing improves airflow and keeps flowers upright.
7. Keep Them in the Right Spot
Display your bouquet in a cool room, away from direct sunlight, radiators, fireplaces, or draughts. Keep flowers away from ripening fruit, which releases ethylene gas that speeds up wilting.
8. Refresh the Water Regularly
Change the water every two days. Rinse the vase, refill with fresh water, and give each stem a small trim. This keeps your flowers hydrated and helps them last longer.
9. Remove Fading Blooms
Flowers age at different speeds. Remove any that are beginning to fade so the rest of the bouquet stays fresh and clean.
10. Enjoy the Moment
Flowers lift any room and brighten any mood. A little care helps your bouquet stay beautiful for as long as possible.
